Deterministic Chaos, Geomagnetic Reversals, and the Spherical Pendulumne. The chaotic motion of a forced spherical pendulum is used to exemplify these ideas. Reasons are given why geomagnetic reversals might be interpreted as chaotic and the implications discussed. Some statistical data on the pendulum motion are presented in a form that may allow comparison with geomagnetic data.
