Nitrate reductase in sugar beet genotypes supplied with different nitrate levelsd by the levels of NO.. At 1 m. and 15 m. 90% and 70% respectively was reduced in the leaves. The genotypes reacted differently to the increase of NO. concentration in nutrient solution. The genotypes with high amounts of nitrates and total N were found to have high initial and total activity of NR.

Laying-open-Technik bei Sinus pilonidalis, by their proton extrusion capacity shows a marked influence of the former parents Berlandieri and Rupestris. Field trials with Riesling grafted on different rootstocks verified also a great influence of them on the mineral accumulation of musts and wines.

The results which are discussed in connection with the phosphorus turnover in the rhizosphere suggest that root phosphatase activity is a significant factor of nutritional efficiency under limited mineral phosphorus supply.

A wide range in nutrient efficiency exists within the recent cultivars and it seems to be possible that a special breeding programme of crop cultivars for low nutrient conditions will be successful.
