The Use of Plastid and Gene Mutants of Higher Plants in Studying the Genetic Control of Plastid Funclocks in plastome mutants are caused by mutations in the plastid DNA itself. Therefore it seems possible to define plastome-controlled metabolic reactions and to obtain knowledge about the molecular functions of the plastid DNA by studying plastome mutants and by characterizing their structural, functional and biochemical changes (Hagemann 1971).
