描述.Communication between cells via intercellular channels – gap junctions – appears essential to certain developmental processes and appropriate organ function. .Gap Junctions in Development and Disease. aims to describe the molecular events underlying impaired development and disease. Beginning with a comprehensive review of various mouse and human genes encoding the channel-forming connexins, later chapters describe several connexin mutations associated with human diseases such as hereditary deafness and female infertility. Erroneous signaling mediated by the interaction of mutant connexins with other proteins, thought to be responsible for dysfunction of organs such as heart, muscle, brain, skin, lens, placenta, and endocrine tissue in both mice and men, is also addressed...Although the question of why some mutations in gap-junction proteins lead to specific phenotypes remains to be answered, the reviews in this book provide an intriguing insight into the future direction of this research field..

Gap Junction and Connexin Remodeling in Human Heart Disease, vern the normal rhythm of the healthy heart. As in most tissues and organs, multiple connexin types are co-expressed in the heart; connexin43, connexin40 and connexin45 are found in distinctive combinations and relative quantities in different, functionally-specialized subsets of cardiomyocyte. Connexin Modulators of Endocrine Function, ded by the endocrine system. Conversely, the existence of an endocrine system conceptually demands a multicellular organism, to which proper signaling usually also imposes a multicellular gland. Accordingly, the secretory cells of all endocrine glands have developed mechanisms for interacting with a

Conversational Agents in E-Learninges. In a few instances, these channels have also been documented between the endocrine cells and nearby target cells. Here, we have reviewed the distribution of connexins in the mammalian endocrine system, and have discussed the recent evidence pointing to the participation of these proteins in the
