In the Fourteenth InternationalSeaweed Sumposium the latest developments in the area are discussed. The blending of molecular biology with traditional taxonomy isimproving our understanding of phylogeny and species relationshipsamong many of the important algae. A new generation ofbiologically-based management models is gradually incorporating fieldtesting, concepts from ecological theory and principles frompopulation biology. Prediction is being improved, and an appropriatebalance is being struck between commercial exploitation and thepreservation of wild seaweed resources. Cell and tissue culture ofseaweeds is entering the mass-production phase. Field farming is nowentering the large-scale production area. New, biologically activecompounds are being described, obtained from algae, and new tools forthe characterisation of phytocolloids are described. Microalgal bloomsand toxins are also experiencing a flourish of new results.. | 出版日期 | Conference proceedings 1993 | 关键词 | algae; biology; biomass; cell; development; ecology; molecular biology; physiology; taxonomy; toxin | 版次 | 1 | doi | https://doi.org/10.1007/978-94-011-1998-6 | isbn_softcover | 978-94-010-4882-8 | isbn_ebook | 978-94-011-1998-6 | copyright | Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht 1993 |
