Symmetric Central Thalamic Necrosis in Experimental Thiamine Deficient EncephalopathyBesides the classical lesions, symmetric necrosis was found in the thalamus of pyrithiamine treated rats. The barrier systems of the two areas differ already in healthy animals and behave differently during the illness.

Andrew B. Davis M.D.,Henry T. Hoffman M.D.r distributed in the ground substance of the nervous tissue. Laser spectrography analysis disclosed accumulation of calcium, phosphorus, silicium, magnesium and copper. No iron cations were found in the deposits.

Endothelial Surface Charge: Blood-Brain Barrier Opening to Horseradish Peroxidase Induced by the Polvely charged colloidal iron. This change reflecting a decrease in the anionic sites of the endothelial plasma membrane was accompanied by opening of the blood-brain barrier to horseradish peroxidase. The polyanion heparin reversed colloidal iron binding but failed to prevent permeability alteration of the cerebral endothelium.
