MTL649 and OM 10043 rice varieties not only gave higher yields but also possessed both bph4 and bph18 genes. Of 34 rice varieties evaluated using molecular markers RG457 and RM190, 5 exhibited BPH resistance that are heterozygous genotypes with the band size varying from 200 to 600 bp.

Techniques for Determining Mechanisms of Resistance: Antixenosis for Feeding pests has been described in this chapter. The experimental techniques should be easy to execute, repeatable, and precise. It should be applicable to a wide range of insects with the same or different types of mouthparts. The test should generate quantitative data amenable for statistical analyses.
