A Probabilistic Beam Search Approach to the Shortest Common Supersequence Problem, constructive heuristics. PBS is competitive (and sometimes better than) previous state-of-the-art algorithms for solving the SCSP. The paper describes PBS and provides an experimental analysis (including comparisons with previous approaches) that demonstrate its usefulness.

The results show that the new methods can produce results fitter than the Genetic Algorithm in less time and that they are far superior to any of their component techniques. The method used to split up the problem is generalisable and could be applied to a wide range of optimisation problems.

A Hybrid Immune-Based System for the Protein Folding Problem,arch strategy. Penalty methods versus feasible search methods are also compared. The proposed hybrid algorithms are tested on a set of standard benchmark instances of PFP and the results attest the efficiency of the methodology.
