The retrovirus/transposon hypothesis of schizophreniaoubt. Only 10% of patients have an affected parent, and concordance in monozygotic twins is probably no greater than 50%. For these reasons most workers have concluded that genes are only one of several contributors to aetiology. Either genes predispose to environmental pathogens or there areboth genetic and non-genetic forms of illness.
