A Comprehensive View of the State Functions Including Maxwell Relations,s an important toolbox which can be used to solve thermodynamic problems. The full differentials of the state function can all be derived from the fundamental expression for internal energy based on the first and second laws of thermodynamics and the definitions of the state function (enthalpy, Gibbs free energy and Helmholtz free energy).

Chemical Potential and Partial Molar Properties,rived and a method is demonstrated (derived) which allows the determination of the chemical potential values of the components of a binary mixture. A similar methodology is also applicable to other partial molar quantities, e.g. partial molar volume.

Another important topic is phase diagrams (temperature (.-axis) vs. pressure (.-axis)), which have a generic character with a triple point (three coexistent phases, gas, liquid), a critical point, at which the transition from gas to liquid stops to be defined by coexistence of these phases.
