Energy versus carbon dioxide in the nutrition of other living beingsallready mentioned. In the exhaled air is missing 4% Vol. oxygen, but there appear 4% Vol. carbon dioxide. The combustion of the food ingested therefore needs oxygen, and because every type of human food contains carbon, this also results in carbon dioxide.

Flora and fauna have inversed carbon dioxide cyclestoms and mass of air containing oxygen atoms. Through combustion-like chemical processes, the potential energy of the food components is converted into heat and/or work in the body and outwards.
