Scientific Edification,ar from ended his religious and scientific quest. It goaded him into richer forays, more exuberant approximations. For Emerson the poet, the claim that spirit is electric, wonderful and true though the utterance was, did not entirely suffice: he needed a theory of relation — how does the one relate to the many, to the human?
