Educational and Career Decision Making: An Introduction to the Issues, to the work of researchers who have been particularly influential in recent times. Research on educational choice at other points of transition is drawn on, where appropriate, in order both to make comparisons and to assess the relevance of any findings for post-16 decision making.

Conceptualising Choice: Types, Stages and Models,re identified, leading to the construction of two inter-related models of the ‘choice process’, one for Year 9 and one for Year 11. The categories and models were then tested and re-tested in relation to the interview data; this continued cross-referencing acting as repeated verification of the durability of the developing ideas.
