Research Issues Using Echo-Planar Imaging for Functional Brain Imaging,ast 3 years become one of the most successful tools used to study blood flow and perfusion in the brain. Since changes in neuronal activity are accompanied by focal changes in cerebral blood flow (CBF), blood volume (CBV), blood oxygenation, and metabolism, these physiological changes can be used to produce functional maps of mental operations.
