Quantum Monte Carlo Studies of Nuclear Ground States,und states. The correlations seem to be dominated by the pion exchange tensor and the repulsive core parts of the interaction between two nucleons. They generate neutron-proton pair distributions with interesting, femtometer sized toroidal and dumbbell shapes that also describe the short-range structure of the deuteron.

Nucleon-Nucleon Correlations in Photon-Induced Reactions,impossible due to the short mean free path; iii) the scarce experimental data for heavy nuclei did not support the model; and iv) the strong repulsion at short distances found in the free nucleon-nucleon interaction destroyed the hopes of using this interaction directly for the calculation of matrix elements between states of independent nucleons.

Usually in such reactions at intermediate energies the cross section is found to be dominated by the one-step process.

Permutation Based XML CompressionMost of the lectures in this summer school are devoted to nuclei—their wave functions, correlations within them, how to measure such correlations, etc. We can do similar things at the quark level within a single nucleon or meson. These lectures will be devoted to just that, particularly to the quarkic wave functions of hadrons.

Chiral Symmetry and Its Restoration in Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collisions,Chiral symmetry is a symmetry of QCD in the limit of vanishing quark masses. We know, however, that the current-quark masses are finite. But compared with hadronic scales the masses of the two lightest quarks, up and down, are very small, so that chiral symmetry may be considered an approximate symmetry of the strong interactions.
