Owenhe reality is. Education in our case would be to get them to talk to other clients we know in their industry, so that they could see what is involved, and to generate real commitment to the project. I would certainly try to factor this education into the price of the contract because you can get delays ... it takes time to tune expectations.

Regulating organizational behaviour?tations, it’s important that you get a good working relationship going. Another theme relates to our understanding of their business. Another one has to do with control... having to share control with others or having to rely on third parties in some way. And then there are technical black holes that could open up, like interfacing problems.

Labour—Management Relations and Incentivesknowns” in the technical area. The area of change ... upheaval ... for the customer’s organization ... one can get big trouble from this. It includes some things we just won’t get involved in, like changing other developers’ code. it’s just too risky.

Alane we’re going to work with. It’s all about going in and not knowing if we have a level playing field... not being able to say “we know everything in advance about this project ... we can do it”. It’s about things that are not directly controllable by us. Things that could come back and bite us.

Padraigo ask yourself if they are being realistic in terms of the money they have and what they expect you to do. So one of the first things you do is filter out people to make sure you’re not wasting their time and yours.
