The Women’s Movement in the Soviet Unionatives as an alternative for the social organization of production. Also, the 1940 Constitution contained references to state support for the formation of cooperatives. However, that was never implemented, and the de facto cooperatives that existed at the time actually were associations, because Cuba did not have any laws on cooperatives.

Historical Background and Legal Changes of cooperatives in Cuba occurred before social ones. The laws that ruled on the island came from the colonial power, Spain, where the prevailing situation led to the regulating of de facto cooperatives as “associations” of individuals.
