描述In the mathematical treatment of many problems which arise inphysics, economics, engineering, management, etc., the researcherfrequently faces two major difficulties: infinite dimensionality andrandomness of the evolution process. Infinite dimensionality occurswhen the evolution in time of a process is accompanied by a space-likedependence; for example, spatial distribution of the temperature for aheat-conductor, spatial dependence of the time-varying displacement ofa membrane subject to external forces, etc. Randomness is intrinsic tothe mathematical formulation of many phenomena, such as fluctuation inthe stock market, or noise in communication networks. Control theoryof distributed parameter systems and stochastic systems focuses onphysical phenomena which are governed by partial differentialequations, delay-differential equations, integral differentialequations, etc., and stochastic differential equations of varioustypes.
