Current Correction Factors Inadequately Predict the Relationship between Transcutaneous (tc) and Arttween temperature corrected tcPCO2 and PaCO2 as PaCO2 increases. Thus a constant metabolic factor cannot account for the elevation of temperature corrected tcPCO2 over PaCO2. We speculate that as PaCO2 rises, CO2 production exceeds removal resulting in a progressive gradient between temperature corrected tcPCO2 and PaCO2.

Transcutaneous Oxygen Tension during Exercise in Patients with Pulmonary Emphysemaod sample. It was shown that tcPO. measurement could follow accurately the rapid changes in PaO. occurring during exercise. Sixty-eight paired comparisons of PaO. and tcPO. were available and the regression equation was given by: tcPO. (mmHg) =0.98 Pao. + 0.7 (correlation coefficient, 0.985; 95% confidence limits, 5.7 mmHg).

Transcutaneous carbon dioxide tension (tcPCO.) was also monitored throughout bronchial challenge, but showed no significant change. We suggest that the hypoxaemia following histamine challenge was due to increased ventilation/perfusion (V/Q) mismatching in the lung induced by histamine deposition.
