An Introduction to System Identification, Parameter and State Estimationl design, adaptive control, and fault detection are all mentioned in passing. Further aspects of these topics are dealt with in an Appendix of pictorial definitions. The paper concludes with brief comments on current research directions.

Taschenbuch der Mathematik und Physiksible are not representative of the physiological status of a fermentation process. Consequently, it has been necessary to infer much physiological information from direct measured parameters. This approach often poses a limitation in the rate of fermentation process development and subsequent process yield improvement.

These can be used in conjunction with the fault detection capabilities of the expert system for making intelligent decisions about the abnormalities in fermentation experiments, and rule out contradictory sensor information.
