The Effect of Focal Depth in the Crust on the Wave Field in the Initial Part of a SeismogramDetermination of the depth of a source is based on analysis of the first phases of the recording — in particular, on the difference between the arrival times pP — P and sP — P. But the first arrivals can also contain other converted and reflected waves which complicate the wave field in the vicinity of the first arrivals.
