Neutrino Transport in Core Collapse Supernovae balance between the electron pressure and gravity is only marginally stable. As a result of electron capture on the free protons and nuclei in the core and as a result of nuclear dissociation under the extreme densities and temperatures, electron and thermal pressure support are reduced, and the core becomes unstable and collapses.
