Strength, Fracture, Fatigue, and Designhis is the rule of mixtures, which works reasonably well for predicting the longitudinal elastic constants. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the strength of a fiber composite. It is instructive to examine why the rule of mixtures approach does not work for strength properties.
