描述The Springer Handbook of Auditory Research presents a series of comprehen sive and synthetic reviews of the fundamental topics in modern auditory research. The volumes are aimed at all individuals with interests in hearing research including advanced graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and clinical investigators. The volumes are intended to introduce new investi gators to important aspects of hearing science and to help established inves tigators to better understand the fundamental theories and data in fields of hearing that they may not normally follow closely. Each volume is intended to present a particular topic comprehensively, and each chapter will serve as a synthetic overview and guide to the lit erature. As such, the chapters present neither exhaustive data reviews nor original research that has not yet appeared in peer-reviewed journals. The volumes focus on topics that have developed a solid data and conceptual foundation rather than on those for which a literature is only beginning to develop. New research areas will be covered on a timely basis in the series as they begin to mature. Each volume in the series consists of five to eight substantial chapters o

How Monkeys Hear the World: Auditory Perception in Nonhuman Primates,ue. The once arguable question of whether that is knowable in animals without benefit of language is no longer so. In fact, other animals can be questioned about their sensory experience and about their ability to discriminate the finest details of the auditory stimuli that impact on their lives. Me

Structure of the Mammalian Cochlea, ignificantly broader in mammals than in other vertebrate taxa due to the responsiveness of the mammalian ear to higher frequency sounds. Second, when compared with other vertebrates, mammals show considerably more species diversity in particular attributes of hearing such as the lower frequency limi

Outer and Middle Ears,d power and couples the collected power to the middle ear, and the middle ear transmits the power to the inner ear via motion of the tympanic membrane and ossicles. However, there are large differences in the scale and form of mammalian middle and external ears (Fig. 6.1), e.g., the African elephant

Getrennt lebende Paare und Singles,gy and anatomy (reviewed in Vols 1 and 2), the understanding of mammalian hearing has been handicapped by a failure to integrate these two areas of research. Many human psychoacoustic papers attempt to account for, and model, human psychophysical performance based on some convenient selection of non
