Digitalis and arrhythmias,derived from digitalis plants. Cardiac glycosides elude attempts to locate their electrophysiological actions within standard antiarrhythmic drug classifications. Effects differ in various parts of the heart, and interactions with the autonomic nervous system contribute substantially to the overall response.

The mechanisms of reperfusion arrhythmias and their possible metabolic basis are discussed in Chapter 3.

Signal-averaged surface electrocardiography,e in standard electrocardiographic recordings. Amplification sufficient to allow their registration leads inevitably to overwhelming noise — and to the need for effective noise reduction. Signal averaging has become widely adopted for this purpose.
