书目名称 | Climatic Variability in Sixteenth-Century Europe and Its Social Dimension | 编辑 | Christian Pfister,Rudolf Brázdil,Rüdiger Glaser | 视频video | | 图书封面 | | 描述 | A multidecadal cooling is known to have occurred in Europe inthe final decades of the sixteenth-century. It is still open to debateas to what might have caused the underlying shifts in atmosphericcirculation and how these changes affected societies. This book is thefruit of interdisciplinary cooperation among 37 scientists includingclimatologists, hydrologists, glaciologists, dendroclimatologists, andeconomic and cultural historians. The known documentary climaticevidence from six European countries is compared to results oftree-ring studies. Seasonal temperature and precipitation areestimated from this data and monthly mean surface pressure patterns inthe European area are reconstructed for outstanding anomalies. Resultsare compared to fluctuations of Alpine glaciers and to changes in thefrequency of severe floods and coastal storms. Moreover, the impact ofclimate change on grain prices and wine production is assessed. Finally, it is convincingly argued that witches at that time wereburnt as scapegoats for climatic change. | 出版日期 | Book 1999 | 关键词 | Atmospheric circulation; ITC; Precipitation; Storm; Storm surge; Tide; Weather; climate change; temperature; | 版次 | 1 | doi | https://doi.org/10.1007/978-94-015-9259-8 | isbn_softcover | 978-90-481-5306-0 | isbn_ebook | 978-94-015-9259-8 | copyright | Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht 1999 |
