Introduction,far as we know, this is the first attempt to do this for any mammalian species on earth. The behavioral patterns listed have been recorded mostly for the M-group chimpanzees of theMahale Mountains National Park, Tanzania, where we have been doing research since 1965.

Discussion,ning chimpanzees and their study sites, and 357 synonyms, totaling 1,384 terms. Thus, we have added more than 500 new terms to the previous publication (Nishida et al. 1999). The last publication was the product of research that spanned more than 30 years. Why so many patterns have been added must be explained.
