Physico-Chemical Factors Underlying Membrane Adhesion and Fusionse there may be several molecular pathways possible for fusion of biological membranes.. However, two distinctly different pathways have been described by which two cell membranes fuse. These involve mechanisms active through lipid membrane fusion, and those active through a protein which interacts directly with two membranes.

Outline of Theoretical Psychologyn dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine or distearoylphosphatidylcholine, or was entirely Ca(dioleoylphosphatidylserine).. In all cases the gel phase was depleted of gramicidin A′, with K. = 10 ± 2, 25 ± 5, and ≥30, respectively. These data suggest that the more ordered the gel phase, the less it can accommodate a transmembrane polypeptide.

Should Psychologists Care About Injustice? polysaccharides are important components of cell surfaces and studies of the interactions with phospholipid surfaces can contribute to the understanding of their role in membrane-membrane interactions.

In this paper we discuss our recent work on the two principal short-range repulsive interactions acting between cell and model membranes, namely the hydration and steric pressures.
