,Veda and Vaiśeṣika,philosophical tradition. Accordingly almost all the schools of Indian philosophy hold Veda as supreme authority in case of doubt and disputation. Therefore, the influence of Veda on Vaiśeṣika philosophy in general and in theorization of its concepts in particular is being discussed in the present chapter.

A meticulously detailed delineation of all the seven categories is available in Vaiśeṣika source texts, which is the main focus of this chapter.

,Consciousness and Cognition in Vaiśeṣika,śeṣika view, the self is held to be the substratum of consciousness and not conscious by nature; it is said to become conscious when involved in the process of cognition. Since both these concepts are interrelated, hence it is appropriate to examine them both in relation to each other.
