How the bidirectional signalling is coordinated during development and promote proliferation of cardiomyocyte progenitors is only partially clear. The indications are that the mechanisms are important for cardiac repair and regeneration.

Mechanical stretch induces secretion or synthesis of molecules with autocrine and paracrine effects. Energy metabolism is also altered in adult cardiomyocytes, which hypertrophy in response to mechanical stress.

Xingye Guo,Zhe Lu,Yeon-Gil Jung,Jing Zhangf the heart. Growth hormone is a participant in stimulating cardiomyocyte growth during development of the heart as well as in the maintenance of the structure and function of the normal adult heart. Aldosterone-mediated effects on the heart include increased oxidative stress, apoptosis, cardiac fibrosis, as well as left-ventricular hypertrophy.

Particle Acceleration and Detectionphenotypes of cardiomyopathies. Genes linked to cardiomyopathy are generally classified considering phenotype-specific mechanistic pathways. Disease genes which do not conform to the classification are being newly discovered. Relatively few novel mechanistic insights have however been gained into how different mutations impact phenotype.
