Michael Brand,Andreas Menzl,Martin Escherioxygen in certain nonvertebrates. Hemoglobin and myoglobin contain the iron chetated as ferrous ion in a protoporphyrin IX bound to the protein. Hemerythrin has no porphyrin; the iron is chelated by amino acids in the proteins.
