Structure and Biosynthesis of the Capsular Antigens of ,,s. This layer consists of proteins, lipoproteins, phospholipids, and lipopolysaccharides (LPSs). LPSs of smooth wild-type bacteria, consisting . lipid A, core, and O-specific polysaccharide, are O antigens and those of rough mutants consisting only of lipid A and core are R antigens (J.and W.1975; J.and J.1984).
