The reason is that one typically deals with projected dynamics, and these are associated with regular probability distributions in the corresponding lower dimensional spaces.

Outer and Inner Synchronization in Networks on Rössler Oscillators: An Experimental Verificationthrough similar nodes(homogenous situation). Again the study of ‘outer synchronization’ among two different network are repeated when they are connected through different nodes(heterogenous case). Though second situation occurs often in nature, it has been studied very little.
