These data suggest that animal conflict paradigms might be effective animal procedures for studying the anxiolytic and/or anti-panic effects of antidepressant agents.

These results give electrophysiological support to the proposal of Graeff (1990) that 5-HT. mechanisms in the DPAG may mediate, at least part of the therapeutic effects of 5-HT uptake inhibitors in panic disorders.

https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-50043-5hormone response was much higher than in drug-free controls. The exaggerated stress response and particularly the presence of high post-defeat corticosterone levels in ipsapirone treated rats already before the exposure to the dominant rat lead to the hypothesis that postsynaptic 5-HT. receptor hypersensitivity develops after stress of defeat.

Rat Pup Ultrasonic Vocalizations: An Ethologically Relevant Behaviour Responsive to Anxiolytics aspects of the neurobiology of anxiety. It should be noted however that pharmacologic results with rat pup studies depend on both the ontogeny of the neurochemical system involved and the maturity of various factors affecting pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.

Animal Behavior Models in the Analysis and Understanding of Anxiolytic Drugs Acting at Serotonin Recof traditional models and concepts of anxiety, as well as the introduction of new animal models. This chapter provides an overview and evaluation of current animal behavior models used in the analysis of anxiolytic drugs with a focus on novel anxiolytics acting through serotonin (5-HT) receptor systems.

Charles Blackorby,William Schwormlated ultrasonic vocalizations at their normal anxiolytic dose levels. The ultrasonic distress vocalization of rat pups as an anxiolytic model does not seem to be apt for testing noradrenergic compounds as putative anxiolytics.
