Soil algae and cyanobacteria in the alpine plant communities,Soil algae and cyanobacteria are important components of most terrestrial ecosystems (Shtina & Gollerbakh 1976). As photosynthetic organisms, they take part in the primary production of the plant communities and are important food resources for the soil invertebrates. Cyanobacteria also play an important role in the nitrogen balance.

Fungi, mycorrhiza, and microbiological processes in the alpine ecosystems,Numerous studies on soil microfungi have been carried out since Adametz in 1886 first isolated fungi frrom a soil. Despite this fact, our knowledge on the soil fungi of many regions remains incomplete.

Soils and nutrient turnover,on, animal and microbial activity etc.) factors. In this chapter we consider soils of the studied area at several spatial scales with the increasing detail: 1) main soil types of the Teberda Reserve, 2) soils of the alpine study area, 3) soils of studied toposequences (catena) of 4 alpine plant comm

Population biology of alpine plants, ess factor in alpine habitats. Consequently, alpine plants must adapt their age population structure and growth strategy to the fluctuating severe environment. In general, the aim of alpine plants’ adaptations is to minimise the risk of a sudden local extinction under more or less continuously sever

Experimental study of plant relationships, ive habitats (e.g., alpine heaths), while interspecific competition may play a more important role in the more productive habitats, e.g., in the alpine grasslands and meadows. Despite some recent contributions to the assessment of the relative importance of biotic and abiotic factors along productiv
