International Protection for the Human Rights of Older People: History and Future Prospectsnation is very different around the world. In many undeveloped countries “age discrimination” is unrecognized under local laws. Even in many developed countries, age-based employment policies, such as mandatory retirement, a maximum age limit for recruitment, and age-based workforce layoffs or redundancies are common and legal practices.

Definitions and Theoretical Models for Understanding Ageism and Abuse in the Workplacetain their jobs due to forced retirement. Gerontologists need to start embracing ageism and abuse in the workplace as possible co-occurring issues rather than two issues existing in individual silos in order to effectively implement practices and policies that will address both issues.
