They offer the premisethat producers of US textbooks and curriculum guides have attempted toanswer calls for curricular reform by adding new content to alreadyexisting materials instead of devoting time to restructuring thematerials. The authors also suggest that US teachers, inundated with amyriad of competing visions, are attempting to cover all the topicsthey confront in their resource documents and to meet all theinstructional demands placed on them by those with a stake ineducation.
