New biologic mechanismsby which sex hormones may be detrimental or confer protection arecontinually being discovered. .We are now starting to understand that the role of the estrogenreceptor is not identical in all tissues. Important nongenomic effectsfor sex hormones have also been described. Hormone replacement therapy(HRT) has produced effects on health risks: some are reduced, some areincreased, and the rest remain uncertain. HRT is being used by anincreasing number of women to alleviate climacteric symptoms in theperimenopausal period and to prevent osteoporosis and cardiovasculardisease later. Positive effects on Alzheimer‘s disease and dementia onthe one hand, and an increase in venous thrombosis on the other, arecurrently being reported by several groups. Both the preventivebenefits and the risk of breast cancer seem to be linked to long-termand current use. HRT requires further testing through specificclinical trials, currently underway in the United States, beforeconfident recommendations may be made about the full range of benefitsand risks. | 出版日期 | Book 1997 | 关键词 | Endometrium; biology; cancer; health; hormones; menopause; receptor; sex | 版次 | 1 | doi | https://doi.org/10.1007/978-94-011-5560-1 | isbn_softcover | 978-94-010-6343-2 | isbn_ebook | 978-94-011-5560-1Series ISSN 0928-9550 | issn_series | 0928-9550 | copyright | Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht 1997 |
