The personal and professionalinfluences of these three women, and other women ichthyologists, arehighlighted. A survey article by Pat Brown brings a number of womenichthyologists to the attention of a broader audience, and points theway for a more comprehensive historical consideration of theaccomplishments and contributions of women ichthyologists. The volumecontinues with 16 solicited and contributed papers.
