However, there are many applications such as airplane wings and fuselages where the beam must take bending in two directions as well as torsional moments. Analysis and design of pressurized structures,planes that fly at high altitudes must be pressurized. Man carrying space vehicles must be pressurized. Fuel tanks, oxidizer tanks, combustion chambers, hydraulic systems, many boxes for electronic components, etc., are pressurized.

Shear lag in thin web structures,rt in the following analysis. Although this spanwise problem is redundant requiring deflection equations, in some cases sufficient assumptions can be made to keep the solution determinate so that only equilibrium equations are needed.
