描述Pulsating and eccentric binary stars play a fundamentallyimportant role in deciphering the mass distribution within stars. Thepresent volume reviews the fundamental concepts of both radial andnonradial oscillations in the stars, including the Sun. Helio- andastroseismological results are reviewed, from the basics to the mostrecent developments. A new theory is presented, which seems to explainthe mechanism of the light and radial velocity variations of recentlydiscovered Ap stars. This textbook covers almost all kinds of variablestars of widely different characteristics. It will serve as areference text for a very long time to come, not only for specialistsbut also for undergraduate students of physics and astronomy.

Evidence for, and Development of, the Oblique Pulsator ModelThe oblique pulsator model is introduced for the roAp stars in the case of the best-studied star, HR 3831. A detailed discussion of some techniques and pitfalls of frequency analysis is given. Developments of the oblique pulsator model from both theoretical and observational viewpoints are given and problems discussed.
