描述.This collection of essays aims to analyse the uncanny as a concept developed in the field of the arts, from a variety of perspectives axed in the literary field, in the media context, and in film studies, with references to contemporary thought. The book aims to provide readers with a methodological updating on this psychoanalytic concept, starting from its basic rethinking, under the light of the different cultural backgrounds of the authors whose essays are collected...The book’s specific focus is in the research on the many faces the uncanny took in different experiences, forms of writing, ideas of art, theories, discourses, and experiences in creation. This shows, still today, not only the concept’s richness in defining our contemporary cultural context, but also its plasticity and its identity of notion-hinge between eras, ideas of representation, and forms of writing of various types..

Yoko Tawada’s ,: An Aesthetic Leap Toward a Queer and Uncanny Ecologys succeeds in making its spectator feel uneasy, for what the reader views is both strange and familiar, or both home-like and unwelcoming, obliging her to wobble within what first appears to be a scenario of nightmarish visions but which then revels itself as a curious world of fantastic possibilities.

Fluidity in Stillness: Jean Epstein’s Uncanny , and the Found Footage Film as it was during the French expressionist era. Using the concept of an “uncanny photogénie,” I analyse both a classically gothic adaptation—Epstein’s own version of . (1928)—and the postmodern gothic captured in the . Activity series.

Uncanny Objects: Lacan, Heidegger, and the Return of the Gazesays, ., writes anonymous. The experience of ‘uncanniness’ is intimately linked with the returned gaze of an object. The uncanny returns something to the subject that is intimately bound up in the subject’s unconscious. Freud and Lacan disagree, however, on exactly what is returning in the gaze.

Looking at Ophelia’s Death Iconography to Understand the Uncanny in the Beautiful Dead Girl Tropehe title character generally acts as the vehicle for discussing personal conflicts—especially those concerning the mother—I argue instead that these anxieties regarding the mother are more visible through Ophelia than Hamlet. It is not her role throughout the play, however, but the way in which arti
