Operating principles of these devices are reviewed and recent experimental progress in our laboratory on soliton and stretched-pulse lasers is described.

Time-Domain Jitter Measurement of Modelocked Fiber LasersThe timing jitter of modelocked Er:doped fiber lasers is measured using a new time-domain method involving cross-correlation. The measured jitter is compared with the quantum-limited timing jitter predicted by the theory of Haus & Mecozzi.

Generation of 100 TW, Sub-20 fs Pulses at a 10 Hz Repetition Rate in Ti:SapphireWe have developed a compact three-stage Ti:sapphire amplifier laser system that produces a peak power in excess of 100 TW for a pulse duration of less than 19 fs and an average power of 19 W at 10 Hz repetition rate. The spatial beam quality is about twice the diffraction limited for the full amplified, compressed output pulse.
