Q-Switching,vely Q-switched microchip lasers bridge the gap between Q-switching and modelocking in terms of pulse durations in the few picosecond regime. These lasers have had important commercial applications because of their simplicity and compactness, although this comes at the expense of more noise compared to modelocked lasers.
