描述 | .In their book, the authors introduce the topic of urban developmentfrom a systems (theoretical) perspective and provide explanatoryapproaches, tips and methodological instructions for dealing with urbancomplexity. Knowing full well that this sometimes amounts to squaringthe circle, the authors draw on applied systemic approaches andsystematically couple these with epistemological currents that can beassigned to Luhmann‘s systems theory. The social understanding of thistheory of social systems represents a very good starting point forunderstanding urban development and urban complexity. From thisperspective, urban development can be seen as a process in whichorganisations and individuals with their own expectations andperspectives are involved, in which contradictions and conflicts seeminevitable and the future cannot be clearly predicted.
