Hierarchical modular diagrams: An approach to describe architectural designs,tax as defined by an underlying textual language. This allows for tools to be built that generate actual code from the specified design structures, and more importantly, that create design structures during reverse engineering in support of reuse. A complete isomorphism is given for existing design languages to illustrate the technique.

Using a metasystem approach to support and study the design process,to design and expression of design metrics is demonstrated. Support for the capture of design rationale and automatic software diagram layout are discussed. Conclusions and future research directions are provided at the end of the paper.

Constructing software design theories and models,ke the underlying design theory explicit, and to allow the designer to extend it to more closely describe the system being built. This paper describes 4Thought, a tool for constructing theories and models, which combines conceptual modeling (Entity-Relationship), graphical database visualization (higraphs), and visual logic programming (GraphLog).

Method integration and support for distributed software development: An overview,software and distributed development of software by teams of personnel. This paper overviews our work on methods such as the Constructive Design Approach and integration frameworks such as ViewPoints, but, in the interests of brevity, makes no attempt to compare it with current related work.
