Near-IR Spectroscopy and Population Synthesis of Super Star Clusters in NGC 1569ry. Star Formation in the Galactic Center and Nearby Nucleintly been born into massive stellar clusters. I discuss these findings and argue that the same considerations apply to most, if not all gas-rich spiral galaxies. In the mass budget of the Galactic center, star formation is apparently the dominant sink.

Spectroscopy of Compact Star Clusters in NGC 4038/4039small spatial scales are seen throughout the merger. Cluster masses range from 10. to a few x 10. M.. A comparison between dynamically determined masses and those estimated from photometry in combination with starburst models suggests variations in the IMF from cluster to cluster.
