Effects of pH on the uptake of copper and cadmium by tubificid worms (oligochaeta) in two differentts with the eutrophic sediment showed that a lower pH gave a smaller uptake of metals. The reasons probably are decreasing surface adsorption, decreased uptake directly through the skin and competition of binding sites. The differences in uptake by the worms can also be due to pH-dependent variations in supply of food and activity of the animals.
