On the decline of classical programming,at the NATO conferences 25 years ago), and in part the consequence of the recent spectacular reductions in hardware costs. The paper discusses the consequences for business, education and research and it indicates the danger of rediscovering the problem of the “software crisis”, but at a new level of programming by the applications owners.

Experiences with a federated environment testbed,ation technology to create a loosely integrated toolset supporting a simple process scenario. The experiments demonstrated that tool integration is possible by third party tool users with moderate effort. A set of lessons learned from the experiments is provided, along with potential future directions for this work.

Observations on object management systems and process support in environments,ons made at schema design time. If this observation is generally true, then we must either begin to develop new data management systems which do not force binding of software process decisions at schema design time, or recognize explicitly that designing a schema is designing, or at least constraining, a software process.
