Tumor Ossification,nd are classified according to tissue of origin and histological characteristics. Primary bone tumors, with the exception of parosteal osteosarcoma, are outside the scope of this monograph since they are unlikely to be confused with ossifying tumors of the soft tissues.

Other Causes of Soft Tissue Ossification,nsufficiency, are amongst the commonest causes of ectopic ossification. In most, the mechanism by which ectopic bone is stimulated is unknown and so the grouping in this chapter should not be misconstrued as suggesting a common pathogenetic mechanism, as has been implicated in the preceding chapter
